This Friday night was three-part: First, DonB gives us a talk on the latest work he has been doing on the abiding, proceeding, and returning of the Self. Next (starting at about 0:23:15) Pierre has us consider two main uses of the idea of 'Self'. Finally, we get into Homer's Iliad again (Book 23), with the Fitzgerald version, and Barbara's notes on the autos.
Study Materials
- Fitzgerald Translation: We read from the Fitzgerald translation of the Iliad (there are several editions of this, but one is ISBN-10: 0374529051, ISBN-13: 978-0374529055). This can sometimes also be found online in PDF format.
- Balboa Translation: Our own Juan and Maria Balboa offer their helpful Greek-English interlinear and colorized translation of the Iliad (with the auto's translated properly as 'self's) here.
- Barbara's Auto's Document: Barbara has compiled study sheets with lists of the occurrences of the word, 'αυτο' (Self) in several books of the Iliad. Stored in PDF format here.
- Don's and Pierre's charts from this evening: Posted as JPEGs in the Download Options menu.
Technical Issues
- This is one evening, but really, three separate talks. (We did not explore any dreams.)
- The last part, I made a mistake with putting too small an SD card in the camera, and it cut off, so for the last 15 minutes (starting about 1:28:12), there is no video -- audio only (from my backup recorder).
